Glad to see my boys at one in the fields of the Lord, or His back 40 up in the tinder-prone ponderosa. Leo convinced fellow campers that "The Hills Have Eyes" was filmed there; Niall kept up on sports trivia by his transistor radio, just like his dad listened to The Sweet on the local rock radio on his (one) desert Scouts camping trip at Pushawalla Palms.
On the way up, Layne mused she'd even stay at the Topanga Canyon Motel next to the Real Inn. Consider in your reverie, dear spouse, that such an idyll lies but a few feet from the pounding surf that gave Malibu its name, and fewer feet from the endlessly whirring PCH. I wonder if she meant it. Our family's intact again.
